Use spare gear for an essence
Equipment has enhancement capacity for additions such as essences, gems, and reagents. An Enchanter extracts an essence from spare equipment; a Blacksmith binds an essence into another piece.
Extraction consumes the original equipment, including any enhancements attached to it. Use the practice gear for your first attempt. Existing enhancements trigger an extra destruction confirmation; equipment without them can be consumed immediately.
Follow the primer
The Equipment Enhancement primer is available from level 30. Begin with the Enchanter in Desert City; the journal also supports services in Stillreach.
Accept the primer. If it is already in your journal, ask the Enchanter for practice gear when that option is offered.
Give the Enchanter a spare piece of equipment. If an extra destruction confirmation appears, read it before proceeding.
Give a Blacksmith the equipment you want to improve first, then the essence, and confirm the quote.
Visit the Arcanist in Demon Square or Newgrove to complete the primer.
Check capacity and cost
The target equipment must have sufficient free enhancement capacity for the addition. Check the game's quote for the actual gold cost and the slots required. Reagents can use more capacity than a simple essence.
The Arcanist explains reagents, while Janar and Janus in the Guild HQ offer further capacity upgrades. Forging improves gear through a different process.
