Two uses for low-level gems
In the Guild HQ, Mentor Vela exchanges gems from +1 through +7 for skill experience. Lucretia exchanges the same range for pet intimacy. Both trades use Service Rate as well as the gems; check that you have enough before exchanging a batch.
Complete both practice trades
The Gems in the Guild HQ primer starts with Mentor Vela at level 20.
Accept the primer.
Give Mentor Vela an eligible gem for skill experience.
Summon your pet and give Lucretia an eligible gem for pet intimacy.
Return to Mentor Vela after both trades are recorded.
The two trades can be completed in either order. Trading twice with the same NPC does not replace the other trade.
If the practice step will not advance
Lucretia needs an active pet. Vela has a practice exception while her primer step is pending: she can accept a gem even when your skills cannot currently receive training. That exception completes the tutorial trade; it does not promise additional skill experience beyond your training limits.
Keep gem crafting in mind before spending gems you intend to combine.
