Combine matching gems
The Gem Rookie in Blython combines two gems of the same type and level into a gem of the next level. The service costs gold and can fail. Choose the gems and quantity carefully before giving them to the Gem Rookie: accepted combinations consume the materials and gold immediately.
Make your first combination
At level 20, ask the Gem Rookie about the Gem Crafting primer.
Accept the primer and collect its practice gems.
Give the Gem Rookie two matching gems, such as two Emerald +1.
Complete the combination attempt.
Speak to the Gem Rookie again to finish the primer.
The primer counts a completed combination attempt even if the combination fails. Merely opening the service or having it reject mismatched gems does not complete the step.
Beyond practice gems
Imperfect Stardust can make a combination certain when used through the supported crafting option. The Gem Master handles higher-level combinations, and the Gem Converter handles supported Diamond conversions. Follow each service's material requirements rather than assuming every gem can use the same recipe.
Gems also have uses in equipment enhancement and Guild HQ trades, so consider those before combining your entire stock.
